Mistaken Wire Leaves Residents in Darkness

Kampar, July 18 (J-on) - Taman Bandar Baru Selatan plunged into darkness at around 10.00pm yesterday after a TNB personnel mistakenly severed a main power line.
The personnel who declined to be named was called in to look into a power supply box which was emitting sparks of fire.
Upon examining the problem, the personnel decided to severe one of the power line, claiming that it was necessary for the safety of residents.
All residences along Jalan Selatan 1 and Jalan Selatan 4 plunged into immediate darkness.
A team of TNB technicians arrived 45 minutes later to rectify the problem.

Ng Yoon Seng, 23, a third year UTAR computer science student who reported the matter said he had realised instability in the power supply.
"I was studying in the afternoon and realised something was wrong with the electric supply," he said.
Suhaimi, one of the TNB technicians said that the power overload was caused by the power box.
He also reprimanded the TNB personnel who arrived earlier for possibly aggravating the situation.
"He is from another department and does not specialise in this. He does not know anything about wiring systems at all", he said.
The team turned off the central fuse, cutting off power to Jalan Selatan 3 before proceeding with the repairs.
Power was fully restored two hours later.
