Kampar, July 7 (J-on) - The fetid and unpleasant water stagnation behind the toilet of Block C which many assume to be the excretion of toilet waste is in fact wastewater from canteen stalls.

Grease traps in the cafetaria should capture cooking grease in the wastewater washed from canteen stalls before it is channeled to the septic tank.

However, large amount of cooking grease may have escaped the trap and caused blockages in the pipes.

Head of Department of Estate and Facilities (DEF) Abdul Majid Mohd Gani explained that the wastewater had not gone to the dumping tank as intended and had flown back from the manhole of the drain.

“We have been trying to resolve the problem for the past three days but if we fail, further action will be taken by our department”, he said.

“The department will employ contractors to fix the grease pipes and the manhole as soon as possible.

“We might also need to close the pathway to fix the problem as it will cause inconvenience,” he added.

Cooking grease that are washed from the stalls in cafeteria are normally captured by the grease trap to convert it into a solid form known as grease scum.

The grease scum must then be discarded by the cafeteria operators.

This is not the first time such a stagnation had occured in Block C and an effective solution has yet been devised.
