Kampar, June 23 (J-on) – Student Representative Committee (SRC) election was heated up on the last day of campaigning when hundreds of UTAR students flooded the cafeteria and became participative in the candidates’ debate session here today.

The debate session received active participation and rebuts from students during an argument between the two contesting teams on whether English language should be the main medium of communication in UTAR.

After an early sortition, the OPEN team held stand on government while EMPOWER team stood on oppositional viewpoint on this issue.

During the debate session, it was found that hundreds of students crowded the cafeteria and gave an overwhelming applause after their favourite candidates delivered their speeches.

Cafeteria was flooded with students.

Supportive audiences even shout to cheer for candidates.

Meanwhile, tension built up among the audience during the Question and Answer (Q&A) session when Psychology student Tan Teh Woi was nearly stopped by the moderator when he commented that the English issue is not relevant at all to be discussed here.

Parking and facilities problems were more urgent to be discussed and SRC should find out solutions, it was not relevant to gossip about talking English in campus.

The moderator who allegedly stopped him for giving comment was a previous SRC member.

Another audience, Rachael Soh from Journalism urged all students to make a rational move in participating SRC by trusting the candidates and casting votes tomorrow.

Audience’s Urge: Without casting a vote to choose the best leader, we would never solve our problems.

Debate sessions ended with a thunderous applause when all candidates on stage stood up and audiences clapped for her.
