Kampar, June 23 (J-on) – Student Representative Committee (SRC) election candidate team, EMPOWER has successfully retained their candidacy but warning letters will be issued to the five candidates.
Chairman Candidate of the team Oh Chin Eng told J-on that he was informed by Department of Student Affairs (DSA) officer that UTAR President Prof. Datuk Dr. Chuah Hean Teik had decided to not disqualify them.
“We felt happy and grateful to the President for retaining our candidacy,” he told J-on.
When asked to comment about warning letters, Oh said he will only give a statement after the team has gotten the warning letters within these two days.
“We have no ideas on what will happen after getting the letters,” he said.
Oh said EMPOWER hoped all students will come out and cast their votes this Thursday and Friday.
“This is the time where students can now hold their power and choose the best leader,” he said.
EMPOWER bore risk of being disqualified by UTAR management yesterday after being found allegedly violating the election constitution by using Facebook and Blogspot for campaigning.
According to the election constitution, candidates were not allowed to have media coverage in the duration of campaigning.
