Kampar, June 28 (J-on) – Five candidates from EMPOWER and two from OPEN had won Student Representative Committee (SRC) election.
There were a total of 496 voters out of approximately 13,000 students in this Perak campus, which formed only 3.82 percent of voting rate.
Oh Chin Eng from EMPOWER is the newly elected SRC chairman, garnering 304 votes which is 61.29 percent of the majority, defeating R. Aravin Ravi.
Vice Chairman Tiffany Oon Min-I granted highest majority which is 345 votes which is 69.56 percent.
Meanwhile, Secretary Nathan Koh Gui Wei achieved 315 votes which is 63.51 percent of the majority, defeating Mark Yeoh Chin Wen.
Amirah Ismail holds the Treasurer seat with 316 votes which is 63.71 percent.
The two Auditors are Lee PoiCia (253 votes, 51.01 percent majority) and Lee Thawat Chae (135 votes, 27.22 percent majority).
Meanwhile, Navindran Chandran won Representative for Faculty of Social Science without any contest.
SRC Chairman Oh Chin Eng expressed his gratitude to all voters who supported them but felt disappointed with low voting turnout.
“This can not be considered a great victory, 496 does not represent all Utarians,” he told J-on when contacted today.
However, Oh said the new SRC will continue to strive for empowerment spirit, which is to foster students’ participation, no matter how many votes they had obtained.
