Termination for prolonged overdue bills
Kampar, November 25 (J-on) - Students who have yet to pay their tuition fees by last week were terminated by Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR).
According to a Division of Finance (DFN) officer, terminated students are required to pay a reinstatement fee of RM100 together with the late payment charge to continue their studies.
While many students know of the RM10 fine per week for overdue bills, few are aware of the termination policy for prolonged non-payment of fees.
One such person is first year Biomedical student who only wants to be known as Rekha.
Rekha who had to fork out a total of RM120 for late payment claimed that she only found out about the policy when she tried to make her payment.
“ UTAR did not inform us directly but fine the unknowing students,” she said.
However, the DFN officer explained that the policy has been implemented since UTAR first began and they have informed students through UTAR portal as well as via notice board.
“Termination normally begins from the third week after payment due date in long semester and for short semester, it starts from the second week after due date,” said the officer.
A check with UTAR portal confirmed that two notices dated April 15, 2010 about the policy were sent but did not inform when termination begins.
Students are advised to pay their bills on time to avoid fines and hefty reinstatement fee.
