Kampar, November 8 (J-on) – The ban on cyclists using the connecting gate into UTAR “is not permanent” on conditions that students adhere to KTAR’s traffic regulations and dress code.

UTAR Vice President for Student Development and Alumni Relations Dr Teh Chee Seng made an announcement last Wednesday through Facebook that it would close its connecting gate into UTAR to cyclists effective today.

However, Student Representative Committee (SRC) chairperson Oh Chin Eng said KTAR management has given cyclists an additional one week grace after meeting its Department of Student Affairs coordinator.

“The ban will be effective starting November 15, 2010,” Oh told J-on when met, adding that he did not know when the ban would be lifted.

He said the main issue KTAR's management had with UTAR cyclists was on road safety and dress code.

Furthermore, KTAR is also concern with cyclists occupying the entire road as they were impeding the flow of traffic.

“KTAR security officers have advised students to follow the traffic regulations but they just did not care,” said Oh.

He also said cyclists must comply with KTAR dress code in which slippers and shorts are not allowed, adding that KTAR’s enforcement would be stricter on UTAR students.

He added that pedestrians may still use the KTAR grounds to come into UTAR provided they are dressed appropriately.

Asked on SRC’s action to address this concern, he said SRC will make an appeal and negotiate with KTAR management again.
