Kampar, Mar 18 (J-on) - Some 30 bicycles were chained by UTAR Department of Safety and Security (DSS) in front of Block B here today.
Some bicycles waiting for their owners to release them.
Security Supervisor Officer, Ravi Kannan said the reason the bicycles were chained was because they were parked nearby the central unit control of block B that controls the electricity.
“Thus, students are not allowed to park their bicycles here as they will block the entrance of the unit control and this will lead to danger when emergency happens such as fire,” he said.

Ravi said students had to pay a penalty worth RM5 at Department of Finance to get their bicycles unlock.
Bicycle owner, Monica Salim, 19, said this was not the first time that she parked her bicycle here but this was the first time it was chained by DSS. After this lesson, she will not do it again.
Another bicycle owner, Rosli Suntim, 20 said he did not know the place is a prohibited parking area.
“I parked my bicycle since early morning and I found that it was chained after finishing my first class in the morning,” he said.
Rosli said he did not know that he is not allowed to park his bicycle here.
A security personnel is unlocking the bicycle for the owner who had paid penalty.
Meanwhile, Ravi told J-on that some students scolded security personals vulgarly when they were stopped from parking at the area.
“The students even expressed that they do not care if we take action to chain their bicycles,” he said.
