Kampar, March 10 (J-on) - Grave clearing activity allegedly caused a fire at Kampar Chinese Cemetery here today.
The cemetery blazed by fire.
The cemetery’s person-in-charge who wishes to be unnamed told J-on that the fire happened due to the burning of prayer’s offerings when families visited their ancestor’s graves.
"My friend who passed by the cemetery and saw the fire and called me at 3pm," he said.
Dry grass around the graveyards were burnt.
When asked who were the families who allegedly caused the fire, he said there were no witnesses to identify as no worker was on duty today.
"Usually we will conduct planned burning two weeks before 'Ching Ming' every year under approval by authority, but today's fire was an unexpected one," he added.
Meanwhile, Kampar Fire and Rescue Services Department operation chief Norizan Isfak Ahmad said the fire brigade arrived at 3.30pm after receiving a report from the public at 3.13pm.
"No casualties were involved in this fire," he told reporters when contacted.
