Kampar, Mar 28 (J-on):The security guards of Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) Kampar were in full force today when a LCD monitor from the 201B computer lab at Block B went missing.

Information and Communication Technology Center (ICTC) staff, Ong Sze Ken realised that the laptop was missing around 4.45pm when he was making his round.

All the labs are opened for students for academic purposes.

He said this is the first time such an incident happened although there were cases where students stole the motherboard and RAM from the CPU. All the computers and hardware are locked to the table.

Ong pondering on how the culprits managed to steal the bulky monitor.

“The university should consider putting up CCTV in every computer lab. If a staff were to be positioned in every lab, it will be a waste on human resources and financial resources,” he added.

UTAR’s Safety and Security Department held roadblocks at both Westlake’s and Eastlake’s exits. Lecturers, students and staffs of UTAR Kampar were stranded in the university and had their vehicles checked by the security guards.

At one point, there were more than 40 cars queuing up for at least 200 metres away from the Westlake exit’s guardhouse.

UTAR security guards checking every vehicle and bicycle that was going out from UTAR for the missing LCD projector.

The begs and bicycles of students who used the KTAR exit were also checked.

However, students using the UTAR bus managed to escape from the roadblock.

Security Supervisor, Mr. Mazlan said that the culprit may have already escaped from the university by the time the roadblock was conducted.

“It is very disappointing that this incident to happen and done by a university student. But we’ll try our best and continue with the roadblock today until all the students go back from the university.”

“If we can get the culprit, we’ll probably make a police report and the student can be kicked out from UTAR,” he added.
