KAMPAR: The Journalism department of
Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) held a recycling campaign here yesterday

the presence of Y.B. Counselor Chan Hoon Yip, who represented Y.B. Dr. Mah Hang
Soon and also the Dean of Faculty Arts and Social Science, Dr. Sebastian
Francis and Pn.Khairiyah, Assistant Officer of Health and Environment from

The campaign started at 8.30am with the

This was followed by a demonstration
sponsored by the co-organizer of the event, Kampar District Government on
Effective Microorganisms (EM), which aimed at educating the students on the
importance of recycling. The Perak State Government and Department of
Environment Perak were also co-organizers for the Recycling Campaign.
“The enforcement of not using plastic bags is
not as strict in Malaysia as compared with other developed countries like the
UK,” Dr. Sebastian said, and he felt that recycling should be taught since one
is young.
In his speech, Counselor. Chan also emphasized
on the importance of recycling, and announced that Dr. Mah has decided to
sponsor a sum of RM2000 to the campaign, which earned a round of applause from
the students. The VIPs were then led to plant a tree in the grounds of the
school to officiate the campaign.
