1,800 Strong Ride 4 Charity

KAMPAR, 10th Mar: 1,800 cycled a total of 30 kilometres from UTAR Kampar campus to Tapah and back again to raise funds for the needy. The participants were formed by 1,200 non-UTARians and 600 UTAR students. Later, it was announced by the event organiser, the UTAR Students’ Representative Council (SRC) that the event had successfully raised RM 18,000 for the UTAR Student Welfare Fund.


            Participants from all over gathered at the UTAR Sports Complex at 6 in the morning donning the official event t-shirt and helmets. These sponsored goodies were redeemed by the participants in UTAR Block A days before the event. All participants were provided with these goodies after they registered for the event with RM 30 as registration fees.



            Due to the large number of participants, they were divided into 3 batches to be flagged off. The first batch flagged off at 7.30 am sharp. According to the vice chairman of the event, Alvin Tan, the youngest participant was 9 years old and the oldest, 76 years old. There were also foreigners who participated in this event.

UTAR Ride 4 Charity participants were flagged off at 7.30am.


            The Kampar police force and volunteering personnel were there to lead and keep track of the participants. Track marshals and ambulances were also standing by along the route in case of emergencies. The participants took 2-3 hours to finish the journey.

            ‘I enjoyed the journey and I think it was fun. The ride was a very memorable event,’ said participant Yaakub, 29, from Batu Gajah.

             Performances and lucky draw event started after the ride ended. The performances included a DJ solo and singing. A group of UTAR student also performed diabolo that impressed crowd.

             UTAR president Ir Prof Academician Dato’ Dr Chuah Hean Teik, thanked the organizing committee for their work and also thanked the participants that supported this event.

             ‘It is a good and green event that promotes the benefits of cycling, which brings health and creates a better environment for us all,’ said Dr. Chuah.
