Kampar: D'Elegance Prom Night, the first ever joint event
organised by the Psychology Society, English Language Society and Mass
Communication Society of UTAR, was held on the 12th of April at the Grand
Kampar Hotel.
The
chairperson of the organising committee, Lim Kai Xian, said that the objective
of the event was to strengthen the bond between FAS students as well as other
faculties. Among the estimated 350 people who attended was Dr. Cheah Phaik Kin,
the Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Science, as well as the society
advisors and some of the Department of Student Affairs officers.
In her
speech, Dr. Cheah said, "This is a good chance to make friends, get
together, and create memories," as not only students from FAS attended,
but also students from all faculties of UTAR. She also said that FAS students
have a culture of studying hard, and playing even harder. "I hope that
students will study hard, and play even harder in their future careers,"
she said.
It was a
most elegant night as students glided around the venue, ladies in their
glittering dresses and the men in their dapper suits. The venue exuded a
romantic and elegant ambience, which set the mood for the night. Couples and
friends were dancing, and everyone was entertained by the many spectacular
performances.

One of the
highlights of the night was a magic show performed by Edison Lim, or Limited
Edison, the youngest illusionist in Malaysia. He performed mentalism acts, and
amazed the crowd with his skills.
Other
performances were by Biith Siew, who sang a wonderful medley of Team and Set Fire
To The Rain, and Eunice Chan and her friends, who performed sweet acoustic
versions of song like Chiquitita and With You. The last performance was by a
band called Son Of A Policeman all the way from Kuala Lumpur, who pumped up the
crowd with their renditions of Get Lucky, Happy, and even some of their
original songs.

Wee and Cheang Lai Sin were crowned Prom King and Queen of the D'Elegance Prom
Night. The event ended with group photograph sessions with each other.
When asked
about the success of the event, Lim Kai Xian said that he felt the program ran smoothly.
"I hope that everyone had an unforgettable time and a memorable
night."
