Vyen
Shin won the 4th Karaoke Competition, which was undoubtedly the
grandest singing competition in the history of UTAR. The competition was held
in UTAR
Heritage Hall on the 7th of August.

The chairperson of
the event, Tan Weng Hou gave his speech before the event started. He said that
the event was to discover talented singers in UTAR and create a platform for
them to show their passion in singing.
Vyen
Shin Yung Yi, Year 1 Semester 1 student from Advertising course looked stunned
when she was announced the champion of the competition, which was organized
by Voice of UTAR.
The
first and second runners-up were Sally Ling Tan Yeh (Foundation
Studies, Year 1 Sem 1) and Jeremy Goh Ti Vei (Advertising, Year 1 Sem 2).

Vyen
was the obvious winner who stood out with her impressive performance leaving
the audience in excitement.
“She
looks like an artiste having her own concert with great confidence and I got
goosebumps on my skin when she sings,” commented Wee after Vyen sang the song
“Gemilang” by Jaclyn Victor.
He
said that Vyen’s performance grabbed the attention from his agent, Kido Lee who
wanted to invite Vyen to join the entertainment company. Kido Lee is also one
of the judges for the competition.
Vyen
greatly impressed both the judges and crowd during her last round singing Amei’s
“If Tomorrow”.
Wan
Qing, one of the top ten finalists, won the popularity award with 443 likes on
Facebook and 2865 student votes.
The
honoured judges of the night were Wee, Kido Lee, Shirley Law, Yingz and Teddy
who have had much experience in the singing industry.
Wee,
a local singer, specially performed a few songs before the last result were
announced. He performed Yao Yao’s Ai De Bao Bao, Michael Buble’s Feeling Good
and Big Bang’s Fantastic Baby. Shirley Law also performed classical songs and heated
up the atmosphere of the night.

The
competition started from the first round themed “pocket song”, where all ten
contestants were given total freedom on their choice of songs.
In
the second round, the five finalists were required to perform fast tempo songs.
Last but not least, the final round was to be contested by three finalists and
marks from each round were accumulated to decide the final winner.
The
top ten finalists were Wan Ching, Stella Lee, Victoria, Kenzi Loo, Sheldom,
Carol, Miko Kong, Jeremy Goh, Vyen Shin and Sally Ling.
