- Approximately 2400 new students gathered at Heritage Hall, UTAR Kampar campus to register into Foundation programmes and Honour Degree programmes offered by the university on the Registration Day for the May 2010 intake.


Soon-to-be freshmen queuing to be registered into the new intake.

Booths from all the faculties were crowded with students registering and collecting their freebies.

“More students will apply for the May intake programmes compared with the January intake programmes because they wait for their SPM results to be released before making their decision,” Department of Admissions Manager, Christopher Ng Huar Tag said.

He added that the university is still open for admission and the number of new students for the May intake will increase over the coming weeks.

Suriani(left) and Lim(right) both agreed that the cost of the programme at UTAR is affordable.

“The factors that attracted me to study here is the reasonable price compared with other private universities and the serene environment,” said Suriani Ismail, 21, who plans to study business administration.

A Banking and Finance student, Lim Yuh Fen, 22, emphasized that the cost of a degree costs RM30,000 to RM40,000 and the students that graduate from UTAR have higher employment opportunities.

UTAR’s goal is to have 10% of international students within the student population and to create an international environment for students to have the opportunity to learn about different cultures and network with students from different countries.

Department of International Student Service Officer, Veera Nadaraj revealed that there will be six international students joining UTAR Kampar campus from countries like Sri Lanka, Nigeria, China, Mongolia and Sudan.

“I preferred to study at UTAR Kampar campus because it is an ideal environment to study with minimal distraction. After completing my foundation programme , I will proceed to pursue a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering at UTAR Setapak campus. ” said 18-year-old Sri Lankan, Mohamed Ahli Marikar.

Mohamed is excited with the new environment.

UTAR Kampar campus introduced new courses this year to meet the needs of prospective students.

“Five new courses such as Microbiology, Statistical Computing and Operation Research (SCOR), Industrial Engineering, Environment Engineering and Petrochemical Engineering were introduced since January but not many students are aware of it.” Officer of Division of Programme Promotion, Kelvin Liang Tian How said.
