Kampar- President of UTAR Ir. Professor
Academician Dato’ Dr. Chuah Heng Teik says
that UTAR plans to build a hospital which practices both eastern and western
style of medication in the Kampar area to serve the needs of the public.
The hospital will double as a
facility to cultivate medical students. In 2010 the university started
accepting students for its new medical courses, which makes UTAR the first
university in Malaysia to use bilingual in its teachings of Chinese medicine
course.
Apart from that, UTAR plans
to expand the campus in Sungai Long to accommodate the constant rising demands.
Some of the planned expansions will include multipurpose
halls, lecture halls, offices, and experimental labs among other expansions.
“The project had begun last year in 2013 and is estimated to complete by
2015,” he
added.
The university council had
drafted and executed a new set of model of the university’s mission since April
2013. UTAR pledges to achieve its vision through the new set of mission goals
which are “Universal value in our beliefs”, “Tenacity in overcoming
challenges”, “Agility in facing new frontiers"
and “Responsibility in pursuit of excellence” in order to strive as an
excellent and top class international university capable of matching the
ever-changing society.
Prof Chuah wishes that the
graduates will continue to learn from society and contribute in return to society, and uses a quote in
Confucius’s analects “He who learns but does not think will be lost, he who
thinks but does not learn is in danger” as a form of encouragement to the
graduates.
“All of you have completed
your studies in university, from now on you will be learning from society
instead, I hope you will think deeply and carefully before you act and
constantly be critical in your thinking, only then can you be useful to the
society,” he said
He then urged the graduates to stand
up and give a salute to their respective parents and teachers as a sign of
gratitude for their guidance and support.
