The Rise of Talented Mummies

Kampar, Oct 27 – Despite a torrential downpour that drenched the town at 7:30pm when the new trimester UTAR Welcoming Concert was just about to kick off, hundreds of students already occupied the Heritage Hall ready to enjoy the talent time shows themed “The Rise of Mummy”.

The mega UTARian concert held by DSA (Department of Student Affairs) in the beginning of every trimester aims at welcoming new students through various performances, and this October short trimester is no exception. Dr.Teh Chee Seng, vice president of UTAR was once again proudly invited to join the fun.

The concert began with a brief drama of a hero with toy pistol shooting down a few hidden mummies in the crowd and rescued the “princess” from the hands of villain on the stage. Followed by a rich variety of performances such as singing, dancing, instrumental and magic show, the crowd went high and ecstatic notably during the last rock band performance which marked the end of the event.

Hosted by Nikki and David, the program flow went smooth and the crowd was abundantly entertained throughout the night by the eloquence and tacit understanding the duo displayed.

“The hidden talents in UTAR  are like mummies in sleep, they need to be wakened and brought up to the stage and let them shine. So as it’s themed “The Rise of Mummy”, ” said Nikki when asked about the reason behind the exotic theme.

It was further explained that the organizer will come up with different creative theme for each welcoming concert.

During the mid break of the concert, Melvyn Choong, the vice chairman of this event urged students with talents and interests to join the next welcoming concert in January. “We wish to see more students to join the joy of sharing their talents, ” Choong said in an entertaining tone.
