KAMPAR: In conjunction with Earth Hour 2015, the Community Service Society of UTAR joined over 153 countries around the world to celebrate this meaningful event.
The event was held globally with the participation of more than 450 students on 28 March 2015 (Saturday), from 8.30pm to 9.30pm at Heritage Hall, UTAR Perak campus. The main purpose of the event was to raise the public awareness on the current environmental issue of global climate change.

Each year, more than 1200 cities and landmarks around the world join the participation of this event to show their concern and commitment towards the global climate change.
The vice president of UTAR Student Development and Alumni Relations, Dr. Teh Chee Seng was invited to officiate the opening ceremony of the event. During his speech, he pledged that it is our responsibility to protect and save the planet from global warming so that we can live in harmony with nature.

As the lights were going to be turned off at 8.30pm, all the committees and participants were excited to count down for the “lights off” session. The audiences were instructed to turn off their LED light sticks once the electricity was switched off.
After that, the event was kick started with a variety of interesting performances. During the night, the audiences were inspired with the 24 Festive Drum performance by UTAR 24 Festive Drum Team of Wushu Club.

Besides, there was a musical instrument performance by UTAR’s Chinese Orchestra Club and a big applause was given for their amazing performance. The night was full of joy and laughter with the humor of the emcees, Aravinden Sundararajoo and Tham Le Xuan, who are currently studying Public Relations.

Next, another exciting performance was the band performance by the Virgin Boys. The audience was fascinated by their acoustic performance of famous pop-hit songs such as Uptown Funk and Sugar.
The atmosphere of the event became exhilarated by the collaborative dance performance of the Virgin Boys and the Danceholic. The audiences cheered to their funky dance moves and waved their light sticks together to show their supports.

The biggest highlight of the event was the fire performance by   'Outbac Broga'. It was held outside the Heritage Hall. The event finally came to an end around 11.30pm. It was a great event to participate in as it unites and connects people across the world to promote an eco-friendly environment and to fight against the climate change.
