90 students from University Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) took part in the 30 Hour Famine DIY Camp for World Vision at UTAR Block K last Saturday. Participants engaged themselves in a series of activities, such as famine night to fight against hunger.

This year’s theme for te 30 Hour Famine is “Fight Hunger”. Through the event, the participants starve themselves for 30 hours to understand the feeling of hunger as they try to step into the shoes of the children who faced hunger for a long period of time.

Jason, the first runner up of Sing to the Environment is one of the performers for Famine Night.
DIY Camp organizer also invited Eternal Wushu Arts Centre to perform at the event.
William entertained the crowd with his magic performance.
UTAR 3rd Karaoke Competition Champion, Joanna Lai performed  “Reaction (感应)” by Vincy Chan at the Famine Night.
Wendy and Jeffrey performed a duet entitled “Wonderland” by 24 Herbs and Janice.
Beat Box performance by Michael (left) and Eddie (right).
The participants took a group photo at the end of Famine Night.
According to the DIY Camp chairperson Wee Jia Chyi, they only offered 90 seats this year because smaller groups would be easier to communicate and the message they want to share can be more easily received.

“We hope that through this event, they can understand the feeling of hunger,” added Wee.

“We started to prepare for the event 3 months ago. We only did the publicity for a period of one week but we managed to get 90 students. We think the main reason is because 30 Hour Famine is well known among the UTAR students,” said Tan Rui Ling, the Vice chair of the UTAR DIY Camp.

Kong Phooi Man one of the participants, thinks that the event is very meaningful and sponsoring a child is a good idea but she was not able to afford the fee at the moment. She said that she will be willing to consider when she starts to work.

The participants took a bus to Stadium Putra, Bukit Jalil Kuala Lumpur the next morning for the international countdown event for the 30 Hour Famine.

This event was organised by Community Service Society Kampar Campus.
