Part 1: PR teams to debut fun filled week
Drums are rolling as final year public relations teams gear up for their campaign blitz starting tomorrow, with themes ranging from environmentalism to healthy lifestyle, while others sit somewhere in between.
While the teams are obviously determined to outdo each other, the message each of the campaigns carry and its educational values will be thoroughly beneficial for all.
Now, before the campaigns start sounding like a campaign of self-righteous tree-huggers or health maniacs, everyone can rest be assured that it'll be a blast with a cast of performers, games, and even lucrative prizes.
My Lil' Green Home campaign logo
The My Lil' Green Home campaign will be the first to kick off on November 1 and will provide a sense of style on how to integrate "eco-designs" to your home with the most mundane of recycled objects through the showcase of an actual living space as well as the know how on how do they do it.
“The concept is simple yet carries a meaning deeper than just another environmental campaign.
For only a day, visitors will be able to see how simple things can contribute to the environment...," said campaign director, Chia Eu Gene.
Warming up the My Lil' Green Home campaign are a cast of entertainers from the likes Diana, Croix, and Miau Miau. Also in store are a series of games integrating environmental concepts. If the "eco-games" aren't appealing enough, then perhaps the the chance to win a tour package would be.
Commitment to 3R campaign logo
If you've been spotting human butterflies 'fluttering' around the campus in past weeks, its the 3R butterfly as part of the Commitment to 3R campaign that will take the limelight on November 2.
The campaign seeks to create awareness and instill behavioral change on the idea Reduce, Reuse, Recycle (3R) among UTARians and the public.
To be officiated by UTAR top model, Josheen Ma Hooi Shie, exhibitions and games will be a staple. True to the spirit of "Reusing", there will also be lessons on how to turn junks into DIY bags.
Give Me 5 campaign logo
Give Me 5 debuts on November 3 and is a campaign pioneered by the SWAT TEAM, but rest assured there will be no guns involved as it stands for “Save World Against Temperature, Together Everyone Achieves More”.
They emphasise on saving electricity, using less tissues and papers, adopting plants, driving less and driving smart as well as stop smoking and open burning, giving the campaign's name of "Give Me 5".
The team which has termed November 3 as SWAT day will collect thousands of thumb prints to stamp up a giant “SWAT Thumbprint Painting” as a show of support from fellow UTAR students to the campaign. The campaign also has goodies in store for supporters with green ribbons on their vehicle or wear green on campaign day.
Later in the day, from 8pm to 9pm, the SWAT TEAM is also calling for a "SWAT Hour" where people are invited to turn off their lights.
“My team and I are overwhelmed with the passionate responses for Give Me 5. We hope more people would join us in our SWAT mission to save world against temperature. Global warming is real and it is time to stop all betrays on our dear mother earth," said the campaign director, Winnie Chen Lee Yee.
