Kuala Lumpur - The Ministry of Higher Education reaffirmed that only those who completed their bachelor’s degree studies with First Class honours in 2010 are eligible to be exempted from PTPTN loans repayment as it will be automatically converted to scholarships.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak made the above announcement during in the Budget Plan 2010.

An officer from Ministry of Higher Education verified the fact that only First Class honors graduates in 2010 will enjoy the privilege. Those who graduated before or after 2010 will not.

“The Minister of Higher Education has brought this matter to the cabinet for discussion and came up with this decision.”

In other words, First Class honors graduates who obtained their PTPTN loan after July 1, 2005 and graduated before 2010 will not be qualified to apply for the conversion of PTPTN loans to scholarships.

Special privilege

“There are different grading systems in universities, all applications will go through an examination by the committee and only then can they convert the loans to scholarships. Not everyone can enjoy the privilege.”

He further mentioned that Ministry of Higher Education had announced earlier that all graduates who obtained their PTPTN loan after July 1, 2005 cannot convert their PTPTN loan to scholarships. This special privilege will only be given to First Class Honors holders who graduated in 2010 following the announcement of Prime Minister during the Budget Plan 2010.
